Bad-ass Steampunk Wedding Cake

(image from: http://www.greatwhitesnark.com/2009/10/08/steampunk-wedding-cake-geeky-cake/)
This is one of the most amazing non-traditional wedding cakes that I have ever seen. I am a huge fan of Steampunk and this cake makes my day.
It’s obvious that the creators had a great idea of what Steampunk really means when they designed this cake.
Here’s the info that I could find about it:
The metallic gears, doors, rivets, and panels were all made of fondant and were entirely edible. This is probably the baddest-ass wedding cake you will ever see. Respect.
Cake by Mike’s Amazing Cakes in Seattle.
Pretty flippin sweet!

Amazing Cupcakery for a Small Beach Wedding
Sometimes small weddings literally take the cake. We had cupcakes for our small beach wedding, but they were of the Day of the Dead variety.
These, however, are not only perfect for a beach themed wedding, but are quite lovely. The presentation is flawless and I can bet you that they are delicious.
Do you plan on having cupcakes at your wedding? If so, how do you plan to present them and how many are you having?
I’d love some feedback on this one.

DIY Cupcake Stands
I love these! As you my know, I had cupcakes at my own bad-ass wedding. But, my stand was not anything spectacular to say the least.
These birdcage cupcake stands, though, are amazing! The bride used her creativity when she saw these used bird cages for sale. A little modification and paint and they make a lovely presentation!
I wish I had thought of something like this, though this would not have fit in with our day of the dead themed wedding! Oh well….these are lovely, in any case! Hope they can provide you brides to be with a little creative inspiration!

Icosahedron Die Cake
Here’s another one for our Geek Wedding Cake series. This Icosahedrom die had to have been made for some die hard D & D players.
I have to say that I love it though. I’m thinking it was probably used as the groom’s cake for the wedding. By looking at the candles, you can tell that the cake was make to clearly go with the color scheme of the wedding.
Either way, I think it’s geek-tastic! Here’s to all you D & D players out there!

Corpse Bride Wedding Cake
I love a good Halloween wedding – it’s one of my favorite non traditional wedding ideas of all time. One of the best Halloween wedding ideas ever is to do a Corpse Bride Wedding. This wedding can be pulled off in a multitude of ways, but the right cake is essential. Below is an example of one of the best Corpse Bride Wedding Cakes I have ever seen.
It has alternating tiers of white cake with hazelnut and chocolate ganache and red velvet with raspberry chambord and white chocolate ganache. It sounds delicious and it looks amazing!
Even though I’m not a big fan of the “butterfly release” at a wedding, a Corpse Bride wedding would certainly be the perfect time to have one.
Beautiful!
PS. I have a great contest to let you guys know about! You can enter here for a $500 Sephora gift card!

Beautiful Button Wedding Cake
If you are planning a simple, yet sweet wedding, this could very well possibly be the cake of your dreams.
This sweet candy button wedding cake is just gorgeous and elegantly simple.
This cake is an almond pound cake iced in vanilla buttercream and fondant with royal icing candy dots. Sure to delight. From a candy cake collection on Postcards & Pretties.
I think this would be perfect for any non-traditional wedding that is just trying to stay sweet and simple. Also great for those lovely rainbow colored weddings where all the bridesmaids wear different colored dresses.

Bad-ass Twinkie Wedding Cake
I’m not sure if this couple used this hostess treat cake as the groom’s cake or as the actual wedding cake. Either way, I would EAT IT UP!
This is one of the most novel uses for Hostess products that I have ever seen. I love going to parties that look as if they were catered by the Twinkie Truck…why not take it one step further and go ahead and make this deliciousness into your wedding cake?
Talk about cheap to make! And how about easy? I think anyone with the right treats and a good deal of sticky icing could pull it off.
Cutting into it may be a problem, but why not just have guests pull off the pieces that they want?
I’m betting that the Twinkies would go first.

Fan-freaking-tastic Mario Wedding Cake
This cake makes me soooo happy! If my son ever gets married, I can totally see him having a Mario wedding cake like this one.
I have seen Mario cakes before, but this one has tiers and everything and is certainly a “cut” above the rest! Whoever made this cake went to great length to get the levels exactly right.
Almost good enough to make you think that the tubes are really magic.
Wonder how it tastes?

Zombie Wedding Cake Topper
You just gotta love this zombie wedding cake topper. It’s available at etsy by BellaSmiles.
Delivery is only two weeks and she’ll custom make one for you! This is beginning to rival the Day of the Dead cake topper that I had at my wedding! (see our header)

Non Traditional Wedding Cakes
If nothing about you says white, fluffy and sweet, you are probably going to want a non traditional wedding cake! These bad-ass wedding cakes can be of just about any variety, including cupcakes and candy tables, which are growing in popularity.
Wedding cupcakes are usually stacked on a tiered stand, which makes them sort of resemble a traditional wedding cake. Candy tables are simply tables which are covered in different sized glass jars which are filled with all different kinds of candy. If you want your guests to be awake well into the wee hours for your reception, the candy table is the way to go.
For today’s wedding porn, I thought that I would show you some photos of some pretty bad-ass wedding cakes. These are non traditonal at best and strange at worst.
I cannot tell you how much I love this skull cake! I can only hope that the bride wore a black and red wedding dress! And had tattoos! Lots of them.
Ok, so I may be a little prone to exaggeration, but this Mario Wedding Cake is the best wedding cake in the world! Again, I hope that the bride and groom dressed the part, but even if they didn’t, they still get my vote for the best geek wedding cake award!
The Mario cake is beautiful and well executed. That’s one thing about having a non traditional cake. Just because you are doing something unusual doesn’t mean that it has to look crappy! It should be beautiful in it’s very own way!
Speaking of geeks, this next one is the ultimate in grooms cakes for the geek guy.
Again, it’s beautifully done and I’m sure the groom just about wet his geeky little tux pants when he saw this cake!
I wonder what the wedding cake looked like?
Ok, since this post has turned into sort of a geek fest, let me include another favorite of mine. The Katamari wedding cake.
I’m not ashamed to tell you that I carved my pumpkin last Halloween into a katamari shape. And it was almost as bad-ass as this cake. I have to admit that I play Katamari quite a bit, so this cake is right up my alley!
Since I’ve been biased toward geek cakes, for fair journalism purposes, I’ll include a non traditional wedding cake that I think is hideous, but that I’m sure the redneck bride and groom were totally proud of.
That’s the point, though of non-traditional weddings, you get to do what you want and say “fuck you” to everyone else. I’m sure there had to be someone in the wedding party’s family saying, “My God, Jimbob, why in the hell would they do that to a wedding cake?”
Either way, like I said, having a non traditional wedding cake is all about getting what you want and giving a hearty middle finger to tradition. So folks, even though I think your cake embodies everything that’s wrong with our nation, I salute you!
