Non Traditional Engagement Rings

non traditional engagement ringI’m not sure what it is that makes some people think that it’s their right to make rude and personal comments.

This phenomenon happens a lot when you’re talking about planning a non traditional wedding.

When my beautiful friends, Brad and Leslie, got engaged, he bought her a great non traditional engagement ring – an amethyst ring that she had been eying on Etsy.

She was thrilled!

However, comments that ensued from others were not so charming.

When you get  non traditional engagement rings, people will comment on everything from “why you didn’t get a diamond” to “maybe he can afford a diamond ring for your anniversary”.

Be prepared, ladies, to get some rude comments from some uppity ladies who feel threatened by your individuality.

My best advice, though, comes from Dr. Seuss – Remember:

“Those who matter don’t mind, and those who mind don’t matter.”

I have a non-traditional engagement ring(also from Etsy), I chose to have just a band as opposed to a ring with a stone, because for me personally the band was more practical. It’s had a mostly positive response, but my mother was worried that it would cause people to think we were already married. As far as I’m concerned, if anyone is really wondering about it, they’ll ask.

I just got engaged and was given an absolutely gorgeous amethyst ring w/stones on either side. My favorite cut of stone in my favorite white gold. I have yet to receive any of those comments but I’m sure I’ll retort when/if I do. I love it. It’s my birthstone, my daugher’s birthstone and HIS favorite color. Who cares why I don’t have a diamond that looks just like everyone else’s???

I also got my Engagement ring from Etsy and I love it so very much! It’s a pick heart shaped sapphire (no diamond center stone for me!) in a heart shaped setting with diamonds around it. It’s very very cute! I haven’t received any bad comments about it yet…mainly for the fact that people know me as being very feisty and should expect to be violently made to see my way of things! :)

I love my sapphire engagement ring! I explicitly told my boyfriend that I did not want a diamond. I find them to be plain and boring much like a white wedding dress. Besides, I think it’s better to have a big gem stone than a small diamond that you need a magnifying glass to see.

According to traditional stone meanings, an amethyst helps to calm the mind and spirit. I think it’s a perfect stone to have in an engagement ring. What soon-to-be-bride couldn’t use a little calming influence??
